What is the Difference Between a Copywriter, a Content Writer, and a Marketing Specialist?

What the heck are all these writers? How do they affect me?

Hello my lovely!

Welcome to my blog. A no-nonsense place where we hang out as friends. It’s how I would treat you in person. Give greetings, give info, answer your questions like we are chatting, and listen to you.

Since you have stumbled upon my blog, I bet you are wondering what the differences are between styles of online writers = the title!

There are so many people who are behind the scenes of every email, Facebook Ad, blog, research page, game you play, and photo you see.

Who are they?

Digital Specialist

We rely on more forms of digital information to research what we need and want with a few beep beeps of our phone. From looking up a recipe, to you curiosity of “who is that guy in this movie, to buying a sweater. There is someone out there gathering all this digital information for you.

How Does a Digital Specialist Affect You?

Your life is surrounded by every word they send you. From Amazon pop-ups for an item you recently searched. Facebook post you opted in to ding you. To “You Left Something in Your Shopping Cart”. Someone had to write it … shocking, I know.

As a consumer, you may look over this. As a business owner, they rely on on this person.

Now, I am not going to get into all of the different types of digital collorators in the biz … You would click off the page. What I will explain is what I do.

What is a Copywriter?

I am a writer who specializes in crafting a message to deliver to the curious consumer like you. Then, adding in a link to encourage you to purchase a service or product you are looking for.

It can include research articles and creating case studies to communicate educational pieces. They tend to be in the form of emails/newsletters, website information and blogs — all with a purchase button (Call to Action).

How does it work?

Copywriters are hired to collaborate with a business owner. They have a product or service to offer you to help solve your needs/concerns. The key is for the item to to have a CTA and be searchable for you to find them on the web!

Copywriters craft searchable words in each piece for Google to pick up from websites and blogs. Then Google finds the purchase services/products for you.

Then delivers it via:

  • Web search

  • Social media

  • Blogs

Anywhere you can find a link!

All of this before you sign up for an email!

That’s Silly! Why Can the Owner Do This?

Time. Time. Time.

It takes more hours in the day than you realize to research, outline, write, and re-vamp. It takes away their time from a current client to a potential customer online.

Just think about a book report from high school — it took forever, right?

A business owner needs to focus on their customers yet reach potential new clients. There are not enough hours in the day for that.

Can’t Anyone Write?

Uuumm yah — But, will it convenience you to purchase? It’s a lot harder than you think.

Most of the time, people are uncomfortable writing or repeat themselves too much.

Then, trying to read people’s minds about how they search through Google is a big deal.

Therefore, you click out and onward to something else.

A trained copywriter— like me — has special tools to create an emotional connection, make you think and lead you down the path of purchase.

You’re an Online Writer?

Yes, in a nutshell.

However, my writing training adds a layer to benefit websites, emails, blogs, SEO searches and analytics for a business owner’s web traffic.

Aren’t You a Salesman Then?

Lol, it’s called Marketing. Giving you the information to purchase. I’m not wheeling and dealing. 🤣

What is a Content Writer?

Words, words and more words!

Similar to a copywriter, with one major difference.

Content writers write information to be shared. Not for you to purchase something.

A good example is my 4 week Hot Yoga Journey article in between my to case studies.

Content can be anything:

  • An Article

  • Recipe

  • Website information explaining the business

  • A story

  • A blog without a call to action (aka purchase a product) button.

It takes special training to write a piece to encourage people to purchase.

What is a Marketing Specialist?

In my opinion, with my new knowledge, anyone who is trained to write and understand the number crunching (analytics) of the web.

Of course, people do go to college for marketing. With copywriting, marketing education is included to understand why we are conversing with the consumer.

Aka I trained to understand the why in marketing.

How Did You Get Into Copywriting and Marketing?

Purlely by accident. Sarah Turner popped up on my Facebook feed. I was searching for writing schools to learn and for extra income.

Sarah's detailed education delivered not only writing skills but also how to harness them to help business grow—aka marketing.

All business are looking for customers but don’t have time to sit down to blog or update their website. Having an out of date blog or website will rub people the wrong why and looking elseware.

Yes, we are high maintenance. I am guilty too lol!

I wasn’t keen on “copywriting” at first because I wanted to write stories. I then realized the importance of communication with people with items they need.

What Samples of Copywriting and Content Writing Do you Have?

I have 5 pieces of Copywriting and 2 pieces of Content Writing on my Portfolio!

A sample mix of newsletters, blogs, Canvas ads and websites.

What Can I Expect with the next Blog?

I will break down each technique of writing. How I mirrored my copywriting skills by creating a website and digital ads.

I will also confess the styles I like and the styles I struggle with.

Hey, I’m human lol.

I hope this intro blog helps you understand what I do. Shoot me a message anytime.

Until next time.

Cheers 🥂 and prayers 🙏,

Bella
